Hi friends! Welcome back. We’re now at Week 6 of the One Room Challenge, the highly anticipated interior design event that challenges participants to completely transform a space in 8 weeks. The design challenge boasts 20 Featured Designers, hundreds of Guest Participants and Better Homes and Gardens as the media sponsor.
If you missed the updates from Week 1 , Week 2, or Week 3 , Week 4, or Week 5 be sure to go back and read all about my plan to transform 3 (yes, 3 spaces!) in my home as a Featured Designer in the One Room Challenge. You can also check out more details about the exciting design event here.
Project Update: How’s it coming along?
Last week I shared how we elevated the primary bedroom with the addition of a fireplace. This week I’m sharing another design detail I’ve added in the space to elevate the room’s design and add a sense of elegance. I’m so excited to partner with Novo Building Products to bring my vision of an elegant retreat to life.
Paint and wallpaper aren’t the only ways to make impactful design updates in a space. Adding decorative molding is another great way to create a custom look in your home.
Although our home was built in 1920, the builder we purchased the house from removed almost of all the architectural detail you would find in a house this age. I decided to use Novo’s picture frame molding (seen below) to restore some architectural detail and beauty to the bedroom.
Here’s a quick peek at what the room looked like before the decorative molding was installed.
And here are a few “in progress” shots of the space as the molding was installed.
Decorative molding is truly transformational. Amazed by how beautiful the room is looked with the picture frame molding, I decided to kick things up a notch and add fluted molding as well.
While the picture frame molding is a great nod to the house’s age, I accented the fireplace surround and closet doors with complimenting fluted molding to reflect our more modern lifestyle.
When creating a curated space, I like to infuse both traditional and more modern design elements. The juxtaposition between the traditional picture frame molding and the more modern fluted molding is the perfect mix of old and new.
Here are a few more photos of the installation.
I’m beyond thrilled with how the walls have turned out! This addition definitely creates the vibe I’ve been dreaming of for the space. The quality of the wood is outstanding and the interest the trim work adds to the space is simply amazing. Can’t wait to show you how it looks once the walls have been painted.
Next week, I’ll be sharing more behind the scenes progress on the spaces. Everyone loves a good before and after. Make sure you come back to see how the project is progressing. I promise it will be a transformation like no other.
